INSPIRATION | Marble

The beautiful natural material marble is huge at the moment. Sometimes you can find it in older homes as an authentic detail, such as a marble mantlepiece, entrance wall or in the bathroom.

Alexander Wang was inspired by marble for his Balenciaga fall/winter 2013 collection. De catwalk had a marble-look, and the marble theme returned throughout the show, appearing as prints on clothing and shoes. Marble as an homage to the sculptural qualities of Cristóbal Balenciaga's designs.

Marble can be used in interiors in the same way as concrete, even though marble develops more. These materials are quite cool and hard, thus it's interesting to combine them with contrasting materials. Examples are soft colours such as mint and nude, and soft and warm materials such as animal skins, rough knit rugs, and wood.

Using black, white, brushed steel and modern lines, the hard and cool effect can be reinforced.

Below some inspiration for how to use marble in your home.
